Elon Musk propels Dogecoin again by challenging McDonald’s!
By a tweet of which he has the secret, Elon Musk has once again played his role as “number 1 influencer” on the crypto market.
Widely followed in the crypto universe for his ability to get projects off the ground or put a damper on them, Elon Musk has just struck again. And there is still talk of Dogecoin and the recent McDonald’s meme around the crypto market.
Elon Musk Challenges McDonalds
In a tweet posted yesterday, the CEO of Tesla companies challenged the American multinational McDonald’s. Stating that he “will eat a Happy Meal on TV if McDonald’s accepts Dogecoin” .
This tweet generated nearly 400,000 likes and more than 50,000 retweets. In reality, it was more of a humorous message to surf on the continuity of the McDonalds meme linked to the crypto market.
Even though this tweet is humorous in scope, Elon Musk has been a prominent spokesperson for the use of Dogecoin as a means of payment for the past few weeks. A few weeks ago, the American entrepreneur even announced that Tesla was beginning to accept payment in Dogecoin for certain accessories in his shop. This initiative remains for the time being confined to a very limited number of objects and it is obviously not possible to acquire a Tesla by paying in DOGE.
This is not the first time that Elon Musk has played a role in the rise or fall of a crypto project. He had already made the bitcoin price rain and shine after announcing that Tesla would accept bitcoin payments and then backtracking a few weeks later.
Consequence: The DOGE Takes 11%!
A few minutes after the tweet was published, the price of Dogecoin rose sharply from $0.135 to $0.15 per unit, an increase of 11%. At the time of writing, the price of Dogecoin remains above 0.15% and is up 7% over the day. The meme token is benefiting from the escapades of Elon Musk but also from a crypto market in the green this Wednesday (+3.75% over the last 24 hours).
Compared to the last announcement in favor of Dogecoin, this tweet from Elon Musk will have had a less significant impact. Indeed, when Musk confirmed the rumor of the acceptance of payment in Dogecoin on his store, the price of the meme token had taken off by almost 30%. The impact of this new tweet could prove to be much more powerful if McDonald’s were to grant Musk’s request. But what is it really?
McDonald’s Response
Wishing to surf on the “hype” generated by the tweet, McDonald’s hastened to send a response. And using an equally humorous tone, the fast-food chain said it would accept payment in Dogecoin on the condition that Tesla accept “Grimacecoin.” This token has already been featured in several McDonald’s advertising campaigns. No one doubts that the exchange should remain there. In the near future, it therefore seems difficult for McDonald’s to accept payment in DOGE. The group has nevertheless made it known that it is interested in payment in Bitcoin.
